The letters inform employers that information reported on an employee’s W-2 form does not match SSA’s records. While the letters are intended to give employers a chance to clear up typos in an employee’s name or Social Security number, they also expose instances of illegal aliens using fake IDs or stolen identities to get a job.</p>
