Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) will propose a bill as early as today that provides amnesty and a 10 to 12-year path to citizenship for an estimated 1.8 million illegal aliens, including about 700,000 DACA recipients and individuals who would have qualified under the original DACA terms set forth by Pres. Obama in 2012. The proposed legislation would also include a $25 billion trust fund to increase border security but would not mandate E-Verify, making no requirement to shut off the illegal jobs magnet and would consequently encourage future illegal immigration into the U.S. Though the bill prevents the 1.8 million from petitioning for parents and extended family, it repurposes the visas for Chain Migration and Visa Lottery categories to clear the current “backlog” of about 4 million, and then allots the remaining visas to employment-based green cards.</p>
