FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon made the following statement regarding reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is considering skipping budget reconciliation, throwing away the best chance to further a conservative agenda this year.

“Activists will be furious if Senate Leader McConnell throws away the only tool to get major wins this year, even with the taste of the tax reform reconciliation victory still lingering.

“Mitch McConnell is not conservative, and he is generally unwilling to fight or drive a message, unless it is to infringe on the rights secured by the Constitution. We have to get our nation’s fiscal house in order, but Republicans like McConnell are showing that they have no interest in doing so.

“It would be wise to reconsider folding like a cheap suit ahead of the 2018 elections.”
